5 Best Moments from the 2015 Family Circle Cup
Marking our 15th year in Charleston, this installment of the Family Circle Cup has been as memorable as any. Here, five moments we will remember for quite a while.
Keys, Kerber Make Inspiring Runs to Final
Madison Keys and Angelique Kerber squared off in the singles final, their respective runs to it both surprising and inspiring. Keys is far from a clay expert, but hadn’t lost a set en route to the final, and Kerber turned around a “tough few weeks” to make the championship match, the 13th of her career. It was Kerber who would win the memorable final, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, becoming the 23rd winner of the Cup and capture her fourth WTA trophy.

Hingis, Mirza Conquer Doubles Field, Make History
Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza won the doubles crown, and with it made history in several ways. For Mirza, it was ascension to world No. 1 in doubles, the first Indian woman to do so. Hingis, now 34, won her first title in Charleston in 16 years, the former world No. 1 in singles and doubles making her first Cup appearance since 2001 (when she was singles runner-up). It also marked a third title in as many tournaments together for the new pair, which is now 14-0 overall.
We’re Fans of You, Tennis Fans
Fan-driven initiatives were the name of the game at the Cup this year, including a brand-new viewing deck for the practice courts, free admission for kids under 15 and displaying fans’ social media moments on site on our video boards around the grounds and inside Billie Jean King Stadium Court.
Shelby Rogers Wins First-Ever Cup Match
For Shelby Rogers, a third time was the charm. The Charleston native was making her third main draw appearance this year and won her first match, a decisive straight-set win over Silvia Soler-Espinosa before falling in round two. Well done, Shelby!
Stars Play Tennis Aboard U.S.S. Yorktown
It was a backdrop only Charleston could provide. As the Cup got underway, American stars Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Alison Riske played a bit of tennis on the U.S.S. Yorktown, a WWII-era aircraft carrier with the Ravenel Bridge in the background. We hear the match ended in a friendly tie.
