Charleston Open player party comes alive at The Riviera Theater

One of Charleston’s iconic venues took on a new role Sunday evening ahead of the Credit One Charleston Open: A circus party.

The Riviera Theater, built in 1939, is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, and was re-imagined as a concert venue in 2021 after years of being a private event space.

Sunday evening saw some of the best women’s tennis players in the world descend under the famous Riviera marquee as they made their way in for the event, a first for the tournament since 2019.

The circus theme included a ribbon artist, stilt walkers, live DJ and musician, balloon artists, fully-stocked candy and oyster bars, and much more. Defending champion Belinda Bencic was presented with her champion’s painting depicting her 2022 win, a new tradition that has been started this year.
