Kiki’s 2018 hat trick
Kiki Bertens is continuing her career best year as she lifted her third WTA title of the season and her seventh overall, this past Sunday, in a 2 hour and 22 minute battle against Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic in Seoul.
The world No. 11 Bertens had a successful week by only dropping one set in route to the finals, while Tomljanovic needed three sets in each of her previous matches. However, Tomljanovic did not show any signs of fatigue and pushed the Dutchwoman to a thrilling three set match.
Experience favored Kiki, as she holds the most Top 10 wins on the WTA tour this season… and had two previous tournament titles under her belt in Charleston and Cincinnati this year. She rallied past the unseeded Tomljanovic to grab a 7-6(2), 4-6, 6-2 victory.
What does this mean for Kiki? This victory increases her chances of qualifying for the WTA Finals for the first time in her career. Bertens is currently ranked 9th in the Porsche Race to Singapore, just one spot out from entry.
Will Kiki prevail? We’ll be tuning in to find out!
