Petra Kvitova Celebrates Her 21st Title

Petra Kvitova brings home the win again! The 27-year-old two-time Wimbledon champion captured her first title of the year at the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy. This victory marks her 21st career title and places her 5th in highest total singles titles among active players.

Another impressive fact? Kvitova has won at least one WTA title per season since 2011. This win solidifies the streak’s eighth year.

Kvitova captured the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy win as a wildcard, defeating the defending champion Kristina Mladenovic 6-1, 6-2 in the final.

Following the final, Kvitova said, “I just really had to play aggressive and dictate the points from the beginning. It feels great. I never thought I’d be in the final coming into this tournament”.

Never say never Petra.

Her tennis was impressive in St. Petersburg, making her hard to beat. She won three of the five matches in two easy sets, bageling Jelena Ostapenko and Elena Vesnina on the way to the final.

With this triumph, the Czech player moves up to World No. 21 and soars up 123 spots to enter the Top 8 on the Porsche Race to Singapore Leaderboard at No. 8. With no points to defend until the French Open, we’re excited to watch Petra’s star rise again leading up to the Volvo Car Open.

…and we’re more than thrilled to welcome her to Charleston for the first time this year! If you haven’t already, make plans now to come out and cheer on Petra at the Volvo Car Open, March 31 – April 8. A variety of tickets and packages are still available. Browse our offerings >>
