Stellar Sloane qualifies for the WTA Finals
Sloane Stephens, the World No. 8 and 2018 Miami Open Champion, became the sixth player to qualify for the WTA Finals in Singapore. The 25-year-old is set to make her WTA Finals debut with a 33-17 win/loss record this season, including four top 10 victories under her belt.
Stephens had another successful year after starting the season as the newly crowned 2017 US Open Champion.
In 2018, she won her first Premier-level event in Miami, and was a runner up in Paris and Montreal. She also rose to a career-high ranking of World No. 3 in July. Sloane will join fellow Grand Slam champions Simona Halep, Angelique Kerber, Naomi Osaka, Petra Kvitova and Caroline Wozniacki in the Singapore field for a chance to win this prestigious event.
Two spots still remain open for the elite eight player field… and three players are still up for contention. Elina Svitolina, Karolina Pliskova and Kiki Bertens each have the opportunity to qualify. Stephens, Pliskova and Bertens are all playing in this week’s Kremlin Cup in Moscow. Since Svitolina is not competing in the event, she will be out of contention for Singapore if both Pliskova and Bertens reach the semifinals. Can our 2018 Volvo Car Open champion Kiki Bertens prevail? Tune in to find out.
