Jabeur-Collins clash showcases differing styles for two top stars

The much-anticipated Ons Jabeur vs. Danielle Collins second round match at the Credit One Charleston Open has to wait just one more day.

Inclement weather made for a rainy Wednesday afternoon on Daniel Island, moving the scheduled evening match between Jabeur and Collins to Thursday.

Regardless, the match-up promises fireworks, and features a clashing of styles, with Collins’ aggressive, go-after-every-ball baseline prowess coming up against the all-court savvy of the defending Charleston champ.

But while it’s Jabeur who is the higher seeded at No.2 and the reigning winner here, Collins arrives on an eight-match win-streak, having claimed the biggest win of her career at the Miami Open last weekend.

She made the hardcourt-to-clay transition look seamless on Tuesday, beating Paula Badosa 6-1 6-4 only 72 hours after hoisting the trophy in south Florida.

They’ve played three times prior, with Collins holding a 2-1 head-to-head advantage, including their only meeting on clay, which came at the French Open in 2020, the American winning 6-4 in the third set.

It will be a busy Thursday for whoever emerges victorious out of this match, with the winner set to play a second time after the delay on Wednesday.

The same holds true for their potential opponent, with Sloane Stephens vs. Leylah Fernandez pushed back to Thursday, as well. Those are two of the most compelling second-round encounters, but just one of those four players will survive by the end of Thursday… and earn a berth in the quarterfinals.

Collins revealed earlier this year that 2024 was likely her last year on tour. Did her success in Miami change that decision? See below for said answer:
