Wednesday winners: Keys, Pegula, Kasatkina breeze through; Badosa survives

It’s a wild Wednesday of action at the Credit One Charleston Open, with 18 matches being played across four courts.

Here’s what’s unfolded so far:

  • Former champion Madison Keys was in red-hot form on a warm, sunny day, claiming her 19th win at this event with a convincing 6-1 6-2 victory over fellow American Hailey Baptiste
  • Top seed Jessica Pegula matched her American counterpart, dropping just two games in a 64-minute win over Anna Blinkova, 6-2 6-0. It was Pegula’s first match of the week after driving up from Miami on Monday
  • Another former winner, Veronika Kudermetova, was not as lucky as Keys, the No. 5 seed falling to Diana Shnaider. Shnaider, who celebrated her 19th birthday on Sunday and is ranked 95th in the world. Her 6-4 6-3 win over the world No. 13 is her best-ever by ranking
  • Paula Badosa won back-to-back matches for the first time since January, holding off 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez 7-5 7-6(6)
  • Another former winner, 2017 champ Daria Kasatkina, had little resistance from Madison Brengle, winning 6-2 6-1 on Althea Gibson Club Court
