Gracheva and 3 Americans Lead Qualifiers into Charleston Open Main Draw
All 48 spots in the Credit One Charleston Open main draw have been filled.
Sunday saw fierce competition for those final six spots, with the top seed in the qualifying event, Varvara Gracheva of France, leading the half dozen qualifiers that also included Americans Claire Liu (pictured above), Sachia Vickery and Katie Volynets.
Former world No.20 Daria Saville of Australia also made her way into the draw via qualifying, as did Gabriela Lee of Romania.

Liu had the hardest path, winning two back-to-back three-setters over Saturday and Sunday (30-31 March), including a two-hour, 42-minute minute triumph over Linda Fruhvirtova, 3-6 6-4 6-3.
Volynets also needed three sets to advance into the main draw, rallying back to beat Ann Li, 2-6 6-1 6-2.
Lucky loser McCartney Kessler, who lost to Vickery, nabbed a spot in the draw, too, after the withdrawal of Yulia Putintseva. (Anna Kalinskaya had withdrawn just prior to Saturday’s draw.)
Kessler, another American, will meet 2011 champion Caroline Wozniacki in the first round.
Astra Sharma is also into the main draw as a lucky loser after her loss to Lee.
