Mirza looks for third Charleston doubles title as she and Hradecka face Klepac/Linette

The doubles final will kick off championship Sunday with former champ Sania Mirza going for title No. 3.

Can Sania Mirza win a third Charleston Open doubles title?

The last time the Indian tennis star was in Charleston, she captured not only her second trophy here, but also the world No. 1 ranking, making history for her country.

She’s back for the first time since that 2015 win and has partnered with fellow veteran Lucie Hradecka, who is a two-time runner-up here. They face Andreja Klepac and Magda Linette in the Credit One Charleston Open doubles final at 11am ET.

Updated Doubles Draw

Hradecka/Mirza fought through a couple of tough matches to get into the semifinals where they took out the No. 1 seeds in Caroline Dolehide and Zhang Shuai, 6-2 4-6 10-8 on Saturday.

Mirza’s 2015 title came alongside Martina Hingis, while she also won in 2011 with Elena Vesnina.

Linette has played as much tennis as anyone this week in Charleston, her run to the singles quarterfinals highlighted by two three-set matches on Thursday – including a win over Leylah Fernandez.

She and Klepac played twice on Saturday, too, winning their quarterfinal before stopping a red hot Belinda Bencic and Anhelina Kalinina in the semis, 6-3 7-6(6).

Mirza, who left tour to have her son, Izhaan (born 2018), said 2022 will “probably” be her last year in an exclusive interview with the Charleston Open website. You can read it here.
